NH6645 : Inverness - Raining's Stairs

taken 5 years ago, near to Inverness/Inbhir Nis, Highland, Scotland

Inverness - Raining's Stairs
Inverness - Raining's Stairs
Named after John Raining (1659-1722) who left £1000 (a vast sum in the C18th) for a school to be built "at any spot in North Britain" - which ended up here in Inverness. These stairs pass the former site of that school as they tumble down precipitously from the Market Brae area down to Castle Street.
