Birmingham University - demonstration mine
Birmingham University - demonstration mine
It is over 30 years since I have ventured into this corner of the campus and much to my amazement the two circular brick shafts and the single storey brick building still survive. The undergrowth hides an angled duct entering the brick building. This is a demonstration mine that was apparently built in 1905 to train mining engineers in underground working. It is long disused except by the local fire brigade for exercises. The ventilating fan is now part of the mine display at the Black Country Living Museum. I am amazed this still survives here.
