Formerly a street lined on both sides with terraced houses, which were demolished in 1980. It was subsequently closed and gated in 2009 to prevent extensive fly-tipping. The sign is inside the gated area, but the tipping problem remains very evident.
The wall on the right of this picture (near Rabone Lane) hides a very historic site. Inside the bounds of the factory of which the wall is part still stands the workshops in which the engineer James Watt built his famous steam engines.
