Hume monument in St John the Baptist's Church
The alabaster monument on the south wall, where it blocks the former south doorway, is to a Scotsman, Sir Patrick Home or Hume, who died in 1627; he and his wife are portrayed facing each other kneeling in prayer. Pevsner describes it as "the usual type".
I understand that Henley had a leg amputated due to suffering from TB wnen he was young. He became acquainted with Robert Louis Stevenson and was the inspiration for Stevenson's character Long John Silver.
