Medieval Wall Walk Notice at Lincoln Castle
This photo shows the notice at the entrance to the circular medieval wall at the East end of Lincoln Castle. It says the following:
Medieval Wall Walk
Walk the massive defences of Lincoln Castle
and explore the three towers: Cobb Hall, Lucy Tower
and the Observatory Tower. These were variously used
as fortifications, a prison, an execution site and a
burial ground. Find out about the characters who made
history here and the bloody battles fought and won around
these walls.
Incidentally, these walls were built in the early 12th century to replace the
original Norman timber walls, themselves constructed on top of a giant earth
bank, up to 9 metres (30 feet high) and 25 metres (82 feet) broad.
