See J3373 : The Grand Opera House, Belfast (August 2017). The next stage of the work is internal restoration “On Sunday 12 January 2020 the curtain will come down on the final performance of the pantomime Beauty and the Beast, and the Grand Opera House’s most ambitious restoration project in a generation will begin, thanks to the support of lottery players and the National Lottery Heritage Fund . . . . . Audience facilities throughout the Theatre will have been upgraded too, with more toilets, better access into the auditorium, and an increased number of wheelchair spaces. Northern Ireland’s Premier Theatre will reopen its doors in late 2020 as an iconic heritage building that is proud of its 125 years of history, and which is ready to begin writing the story of the next 125 years” - official press release dated 12 April 2018.
Don’t panic! Global superstar May McFettridge will still be in the 2019/20 panto “May McFettridge celebrates her 30th season as the Queen of Belfast Pantomime. . . . Please note, Pantomime is loud for a small pair of ears, spectacular sights can sometimes cause tears! If bringing a little one, please be aware, one or two scenes are intended to scare. The odd naughty joke for grown-up laughter, ensures that we all finish Happily Ever After.
