Memorial to Ada Lovelace
Memorial to Ada Lovelace
Ada Augusta Lovelace was the daughter of poet Lord Byron and mathemetician Anne Isabella Milbanks. She spent her early years at Kirkby Mallory Hall after her parents separated. Ada is best known for her work alongside Charles Babbage on his 'Analytical Engine' in the 1840s. She is sometimes regarded as the first to recognise the full potential of a 'computing machine' and one of the first computer programmers. Ada died of cancer in 1852, at the age of 36. She is buried at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Hucknall, Nottingham.
This memorial is in a corner of the churchyard at All Saints church, Kirkby Mallory.
