Plough Maltings, Horninglow St., Burton-upon-Trent, Staffs.
The defunct Grade II-listed Plough Maltings opposite the National Brewery Visitors' Centre appear to have been sold and are awaiting redevelopment . These maltings were not traditional floor maltings but are an example of drum maltings built to house box drums which turned the barley as it was germinating. They were the first such mechanical maltings in the town and were in use until 1968. Herbert Couchman, who was the chief engineer and architect to Bass, Ratcliff & Gretton of Burton upon Trent from 1891 designed and supervised the construction of these premises between 1899-1902.
