SW4628 : Tidal observatory, Newlyn

taken 5 years ago, near to Newlyn, Cornwall, England

Tidal observatory, Newlyn
Tidal observatory, Newlyn
The building beside the lighthouse at the end of Newlyn's south pier is the tidal observatory. It was here that UK sea level was defined, and it houses the UK's fundamental benchmark - a brass bolt from which every other benchmark, and hence other heights above sea level are measured.
