River Maigue and Desmond Castle
Desmond Castle, sometimes called Adare Castle, is situated next to the River Maigue, just outside the town of Adare in County Limerick. The castle is believed to have been built in the 12th century. It was destroyed in 1657 by Parliamentary forces after Oliver Cromwell invaded Ireland. Restoration work commenced in 1996.
