Tree Sculpture to celebrate Tour de France in Harrogate 2014
This old elm tree, believed to be more than 100 years old, stands on Montpellier Hill in the Montpellier Quarter of Harrogate. It was carved by Mick Burns to celebrate the Grand Depart taking place in Yorkshire and Stage One finishing in Harrogate. The first two stages of the Tour de France were held in Yorkshire and were informally nicknamed Le Tour de Yorkshire. Its success led to the formation of the Tour de Yorkshire the following year and this cycle race is now held annually in May.
