Chip shop fire on Red Lion Street
Chip shop fire on Red Lion Street
November 29th 2019 at 6.30 p.m. was the scheduled switch-on of Aylsham's Christmas lights and the streets were closed to vehicles but full of stall and people who had come out to enjoy the occasion. At around 6.15 there are a fire alarm from Bond's chip shop (just beyond "Priscilla Bacon"); the street was cleared of people and soon afterwards was filled with fire appliances. This is the scene over an hour later when the emergency was largely over and some local residents were escorted back to their homes. The festivities in the Town Square nearby proceeded without interruption and the lights were switched on as scheduled.
