SW3835 : Pendeen Mine

taken 5 years ago, near to Lower Boscaswell, Cornwall, England

Pendeen Mine
Pendeen Mine
Remains of Pendeen Consols Tin & Copper Mine. In 1870 it was 220 fathoms deep and had a workforce of 100 people. The mine went out under the sea following veins of copper. About 70m in front of this building, almost on the cliff edge was where the Engine House once stood. There is still a large area of spoil on the cliffs, as this was the cheapest way to get rid of the waste despite it turning the sea red.
