Hedge of New Zealand broadleaf, Churchland Lane
New Zealand broadleaf (Griselinia littoralis) is often used as an evergreen hedging shrub, especially near the sea. It is not always hardy in colder locations but grows well enough in East Sussex. It is dioecious, with male and female flowers on different bushes so it does not often set seed here. In its native country it has been used to treat scrofula and venereal diseases.
