At a hilltop banjo
The Walton Common site overlooked a lot of low-lying marsh to one side and the Bristol Channel to the other. Consequently, it became a popular location for many ancient peoples. The oldest relic is a Saucer Barrow, dating from the Early Bronze Age. Following that in the late Bronze and early Iron Ages came a more settled occupation. During that time a 'banjo' enclosure (a round area with a long avenue leading to it) was created. Also in the hilly region is evidence of various hut circles, enclosures and field systems.

This view is of the north-east part of the circular univalte earthworks, with the avenue to the left of shot.
