SE3615 : Old pulley stone

taken 4 years ago, near to Walton, Wakefield, England

Old pulley stone
Old pulley stone
A remnant from the days when horses pulled barges along the adjacent canal. At this point the canal goes around a sharp corner, so the towing rope was fed through the pulley to keep both barge and horse the right distance apart.
