Bat House, Blackrock near Brynmawr
This house or barn with no windows or doors on the edge of a field in the Clydach Gorge is a bat house. To the right of this photograph the A465 Heads of the Valleys road is being widened to a dual carriageway. Because the Gorge contains 5% of the UK population of the Lesser horseshoe bat, Rhinolophus hipposideros, the contractors have had to build a hibernacula to replace other buildings demolished as part of the works.
