Harwich: The High Lighthouse
Harwich: The High Lighthouse
Built in 1818, the High Lighthouse together with the Low Lighthouse TM2632 : Harwich: The Low Lighthouse when lined up provided leading lights for ships entering Harwich Harbour. However over time and the silting up of the channel they highlighted they no longer safely guided ships safely past the shoals, and became known as 'misleading lights'. Their use was discontinued in 1863.

The High Lighthouse is both a Grade II* Listed Building and a Scheduled Monument.
