NX9776 : St Mary's Greyfriars Church, DumfriesNX9776 : St. Mary's Greyfriars overlooks the junctionIn the original Grey Friar's Kirk 'murder most foul' was committed on 10th February 1306 by Robert the Bruce - having invited Red John Comyn to parley with him there, he stabbed him to death. He was then excommunicated by the Pope - not for the act but for doing it in a holy place! Not that any of this stopped him becoming King of Scotland (1306-29).
The event is I believe recorded on a plaque in the vicinity - photo please?
