One of the earliest brick buildings in the county. Was part of a medieval fortified house (maison forte).
Built in around 1450 by Richard Benyngton, collector of customs and excise in Boston, which was at the time, the wealthiest port in England outside London.
From 1475–1537 it was the manorial home of Sir John Hussey, a member of the court of Henry VIII. He was beheaded by Henry VIII in 1537, for failing to suppress the Lincolnshire Rising.
