Derelict military buildings on Orford Ness
Derelict military buildings on Orford Ness
The black tower on the left was used for radio navigation experiments in the 1920s; nearby buildings were the location of Robert Watson-Watt's first experiments with radar in the 1930s, before the main research site shifted to nearby Bawdsey. The "pagodas", just visible beyond it, were used for testing the resistance of nuclear weapons firing systems to harsh weather.
