Mansion House in Calderstones Park
Mansion House in Calderstones Park
This is the Grade II listed Mansion House in Calderstones Park built in 1828 for Joseph Walker. In 1902, Charles McIver co-founder of Cunard Line, bequeathed the estate to Liverpool Corporation and it was transformed into a public park, the mansion housed a tea-room and cafe and for many years was regularly used for wedding receptions, parties and other functions. From the 1970's until 2012 the building housed council offices and became somewhat neglected.
Sold and re-opening in September 2019, the elegant building has been totally renovated. The restoration work was commissioned by the Reader charity with funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, Liverpool City Council and independent funders in order to create a unique public space offering experiences, meetings, events and activities to bring people together.
