The present Ballinasaggart Church of Ireland was built in 1832 to replace a 1622 earlier church

Its fine proportions are attributed to William Warren. Nearby, Con O'Neill established a Franciscan Friary - circa 1490 - enjoying O'Neill patronage
By 1610 it was "in the king's hands" after the Ulster Earls took flight in 1607 Usually in Ulster friaries were linked to local leading families. The friary foundations lie buried behind the Moutray memorial.

The original settlement dates from 495 AD
