Described as ruins on first OS map of area in 1853 so obviously a long-forgotten distant history here. Tracks of the ford currently used can be seen on the left (east) of the picture, but ford on old map looks like it is further right (west) , but then again hard to know which bit of the ruins the wall belongs to, so my guess is the ford is in same place, as an obvious place to have one.
