NZ0796 : Wards Hill quarry

taken 4 years ago, near to Forestburn Gate, Northumberland, England

Wards Hill quarry
Wards Hill quarry
I believe the quarry was worked primarily for the hard Whin Sill stone which forms the major part of the surrounding parapet. However, other strata can clearly be seen in this shot like the seam of grey shale, with quite a heap of it in the middle of the picture. I think the white rocks on the floor of the quarry are probably limestone.
