Entering Waresley Wood
Entering Waresley Wood
Waresley Wood and Gransden Wood (contiguous but separated by the Waresley Dean Brook) are adjoining ancient oak and ash woods, a type restricted to lowland England. The site is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its diverse flora, enriched by the underlying geology of the wood, a combination of Lower Greensand and Boulder Clay. The woods are home to many breeding birds, including ground-nesting varieties, and are noted for their carpets of bluebells in the spring.
