Castles of Munster: Templemore, Tipperary
Templemore lake was used to protect the north and east sides of a 50m by 40m bawn whose walls on those sides have since been destroyed. The rectangular tower in the SW corner is of three storeys, and composed of roughly coursed limestone rubble, with substantial base-batter and dressed quoins. James Earl of Ormond is listed as proprietor in 1640, and described in the Civil Survey of 1654-6 as 'a Castle and the Walls of a stone house out of repaire.'
