Track below Fan Frynych - Heol Senni, Powys
Veiled in mist to the left the 2063 ft (feet)/629m (metres) bulk of Fan Frynych, the site of the Graig Cerrig Gleisiad National Nature Reserve (NNR) and to the right a Forestry Commission plantation. Ahead the track continues to the bridge of Pont Blaen cwm du
SN9421 : South west of Fan Frynych - Heol Senni, Powys and then generally southwards across country to join an unclassified road leading to the then YHA (Youth Hostels Association) hostel in the village of Ystradfellte, pronounced Istrad-vethtur, short i. Hereabouts the track is marked on maps as 'Sarn Helen ROMAN ROAD'. It is thought to be a corruption of Sarn y Lleng meaning the road of the Legions, rather than some mythical figure named Helen. I did meet a Helen on this trip but there was nothing mythical about her. This trip started at the former Brecon YHA, then over the Beacons, where I met some fellow members of Stroud Rambling Club, to Llwyn y Celyn - Holly Grove - YHA and then to the now-vanished Ystradfellte YHA. Time photo taken not available.
