Geograph - photograph every grid square

The red till 'cliff' at Tofthead is a site of geological interest. It is an exposure of the thick unconsolidated deposit of clays and sands left behind during the last Ice Age. Its situation on the outside of a meander of the River Spey means that its base is constantly being eroded by the river, and on Sunday 20 April 2008 a section of it began to move. The river water was discoloured for several hours by the sand and mud which had fallen into it, and during the ensuing days numerous cracks and faults have appeared in the unstable material. At the time of writing (Friday 25 April) it is still moving. Any further events will be reported here, and photographed if that can safely be done.
