The Parish of St Paul's had been united with St Saviour's in 1920. Following the destruction of the church of St Paul > Link on Barrack Street by a bomb in 1942, the congregations had used St Saviour's, retaining a wooden mission hall on Magdalen Road, built in 1892, which during the early 1950s had been found to be unsafe and too expensive to repair. The Norwich Diocesan Church Council consulted with their architect, JP Chaplin, about replacing the old Mission Hall using funds from the War Damage commission. These did, however, not allow a church, because of the continued use of St Saviour's. The documentation in the NRO makes no mention of the sculptor of the statue of St Paul the Herit > Link above the entrance. According to the Golden Legend this St Paul was the first hermit saint, whose daily bread was brought him by a crow, who perceptively doubled the ration when St Anthony visited. The building currently houses a Little Montessori Nursery.
