A recently restored stronghouse built in the 1630s by the Archdeacon family overlooks the south entrance of the West Passage of Cork Harbour. The main block is of three storeys with four storey projecting towers at all four corners, each with an attic within a roof of four gables. In one of the upper levels is a magnificemt fireplace dated 1636 and 1814 with the initials of Bernard Shaw who renovated the building. Its uses has included being an army barracks in 1808-14, and in more recent times as a golf clubhouse.
