SE4923 : Knottingley railway station, Yorkshire

taken 4 years ago, near to Ferrybridge, Wakefield, England

Knottingley railway station, Yorkshire
Knottingley railway station, Yorkshire
Opened in 1848 on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's line from Wakefield to Goole, this once-grand station had four platforms with an overall roof. Since the 1960s it has been a much simpler affair.
View west towards Pontefract and Wakefield. The former Doncaster-bound platforms had been further to the left. In the 12 years since SE4923 : Knottingley railway station, Yorkshire, 2008 was taken looking in the opposite direction, the platforms appear to have been extended slightly and new waiting shelters provided.
