Castles of Munster: Shanpallas, Limerick (1)
An 18m high half of a five storey tower, the second of which was vaulted. It belonged to the earls of Desmond and was captured in 1650 by Sir Henry Waller for Cromwell. Nearby is a relic of its bawn, a round turret with a staircase.
