"Train setting off for Bodiam on the Kent and East Sussex Railway.
The locomotive is a US Army Transportation Corps class S100 0-6-0T, built in 1943 in the USA. Here, it is in a war-time grey livery, numbered WD 1960. It was bought by the Southern Railway in 1946/7, and used at Southampton Docks (where a short wheelbase was required). It became SR 70, then BR 30070. In 1962, it was transferred to Ashford Wagon Works as DS238 and named Wainwright. It was finally withdrawn in 1967 and sold for scrap, but escaped the breaker's torch by developing hot bearings en route to Barry. It was sold to the K&ESR and restored in 1994. Since 2005, it has been overhauled and in 2017 was outshopped in Longmoor Military Railway livery as WD 300 Frank S. Ross.
Four locos survive, out of 15 that were bought by the SR. Two more have been imported from Yugoslavia. Classmate SR 65 (30065 / DS 237) has an almost identical history - TQ8632 : Rolvenden, Kent & East Sussex Railway. "
