Leicester's Gatehouse. Kenilworth Castle
This gatehouse was built into the curtain wall in 1571-2 by Leicester to provide a grand new entrance from the Coventry direction and the Parish Church. The gateway was through the middle with two gates. After 1650 the curtain wall was dismantled and it became a substantial house with the gateways being replaced with bay windows
