The River Severn

The River Severn is the longest river in Britain, at about 354 kilometres (220 miles). Its source is on Plynlimon near Llanidloes, Powys, in the Cambrian Mountains. It then flows through Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. The Severn is the greatest river in terms of water flow in England and Wales.

Victoria Bridge, Arley

The Victoria Bridge carries the single track of the Severn Valley Railway across the River Severn about ½ mile south of Arley Station in Worcestershire. With a span of 200ft it was the largest cast iron arch span in Britain at the time of its completion in 1861. Now Grade II* (see LinkExternal link ) listed it is arguably the most imposing engineering structure on any of the c550 miles of track of the heritage railway movement in Britain.
