At around 23:20 on the evening of Wednesday 26th August, a train transporting diesel fuel from Milford Haven to Theale derailed at the point where the twin track goods and passenger line branches off to the Heart of Wales line.

A large fire ensued which burned for several days afterwards. It's also believed a quantity of diesel fuel escaped into the nearby Loughor estuary, causing unknown damage to wildlife as there are several sites of scientific interest nearby.

The point of the fire can be identified where fire appliances are still dousing the area to cool it down. The rest of the train can be observed further down the track - it is believed to have decoupled and moved away from the fire, but remains at the scene as investigations continue.
