In a field in a remote part of the countryside is the northern part of a four storey tower whose east facing turret at the NE corner has a vault of overlapping slabs. According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) Edward Dowdall owned 295 acres at Mountowne or Mounketowne in Skreen barony in 1640, and the property included 'one castle, one water mill and one church'.
