Modern Ordnance Survey maps are now showing this as a livestock pen or sheepfold. This is also mentioned here NY8245 : Disused shaft or sheepfold?.

The hush is an artificial channel made by the lead miners by creating a head of water in a dam then suddenly releasing it to strip away vegetation and soil above a lead vein. The old dam is shown on the first edition OS map at a height of above 2000', just north-east of Killhope Law. The dam was filled from a convenient spring nearby. Doctor's Hush is said to have uncovered a strong vein of lead-ore 1,600' south of the Coalcleugh-Allenheads road.
