Llyn yr Arddu
What a gem this is, snug in its bowl of rhyolite crags, fabulously polished and plucked by the passage of an ice stream between Snowdon and the Moelwyns. The summit of Cnicht appears to be much closer than in reality. Back in 1975, on my first visit, a few daft students of geology were persuaded that swimming across the llyn would be a wheeze. It turned out to be shallower and more full of peat than we expected, but we all survived.
