Statue of James Steel, English Street, Carlisle
James Steel was editor of the Carlisle Journal and Mayor of Carlisle twice, in 1843 and 1846. The statue was sculpted by William Frederick Woodington (1806-93) who was a prominent C19 figure sculptor whose best known work is the bronze relief of the Battle of the Nile at the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar
Square. The statue is listed GII.
