Lamppost, Belfast City Hall (detail)
It was traditional for two ornate lampposts to be erected outside the home of Belfast’s Lord Mayor. This became impractical when the post rotated annually. They are now permanently based in front of the City Hall (background). Charlie Brett described the characters as “four cretinous putti, coy and obscene”. There are similar ones in Bedford Street J3373 : Ulster Hall lamppost, Belfast (detail), outside the Ulster Hall.
