SK5804 : Archway across St Nicholas Walk

taken 3 years ago, near to Leicester, England

Archway across St Nicholas Walk
Archway across St Nicholas Walk
The archway is between St Nicholas Church on the right, and the Jewry Wall on the left.
St Nicholas' Church is the oldest place of worship in the city of Leicester. Parts of the church date from AD 880, with possible Roman building work. The tower is Norman. The church was extensively renovated between 1875 and 1884.
Built in the 2nd century A.D., the Jewry Wall is the largest non-military surviving Roman structure in Britain. It formed part of the Roman Baths, the origin of the name 'Jewry' is obscure.
