NY5908 : Sheep searching for grass

taken 3 years ago, 3 km from Greenholme, Cumbria, England

Sheep searching for grass
Sheep searching for grass
Despite the underlying rock being limestone (as evidenced by plenty of shakeholes scattered about) this bit of moor is as boggy as they come, and the sheep are struggling to find any green grass among the coarse sedges and soft rush. Better grazing lies on enclosed land a few hundred metres east, with the same underlying geology so I'm sure these ones feel ill-ewesd. Beyond lie the sunlit uplands of the Howgill Fells and the gap between them and the Lakes hills cut through by the River Lune and followed by the M6 motorway and the West Coast Main Line.
