SD9103 : Brook No. 2 Mill, Hollinwood

taken 18 years ago, near to Failsworth, Oldham, England

Brook No. 2 Mill, Hollinwood
Brook No. 2 Mill, Hollinwood
1883 built spinning mill. It has now been replaced by an academy and the positions are approximate. This is an end on view of the rectangular two storey building that was the converted engine house. This contained an 1100 horsepower George Saxon horizontal twin tandem compound engine with rope drive. The big arched opening would have been glazed above the stonework and would have been the opening through which the engine was installed.
The continuing destruction of Oldham's textile heritage is a great loss in my opinion.
