NY9018 : Green waterfall, White Hill

taken 3 years ago, 4 km SW of Kelton, County Durham, England

Green waterfall, White Hill
Green waterfall, White Hill
The fall is caused where an unnamed sike cuts through the Upper Felltop Limestone and down into the slightly softer sandstone below on its descent to join what was once the free-flowing River Balder, but is now the upper end of Balderhead reservoir. The chain-link fence at the top is in marked contrast to most boundaries on the fell which are either drystone walls or pig-wire fence but seems to be standard issue for water companies, regardless of the environment.
