Many trains, few passengers: Birmingham New Street concourse in the pandemic
This would normally be thronged, even in late morning. 'Social distancing' had been contrived, certainly on long-distance trains so at any given time fewer people would be able to travel. In addition restrictions discouraged travel, the need to book online may have been a deterrent, and there was fear of catching the virus on public transport despite mandatory face-coverings. My journey to Devon was uneventful, people kept their distance; wearing a mask was a pain but I felt safe.
