The sign has six obvious elements consisting of St Gregory's church, surrounded by trees representative of Rendlesham forest, being overflown by the 1944 Grace Spitfire which is based nearby Bentwaters. Between the two flags of the United Kingdom and the United States of America representing the presence of the U.S. airbase (1951-1993) is Raedwald, Saxon King whose family home was Rendlesham and described by Bede as a "Kingly town that is named Rendlesham". On the supporting brick pillar is a representation of the flying saucer which may or may not have landed in Rendlesham Forest in 1980. Link
Village Signs of East Anglia

Village signs are typically placed along the principal road or in a prominent location such as a village green or close by the church. The design often depicts a particularly feature of the village or a scene from its history, heritage, or culture. They are typically made of wood or metal or a combination of both, the designs are often made by the local community.
Although they do appear in villages and towns all over the country they are more prominent in East Anglia than elsewhere in the country.
