The Chinese Lake - Noddsdale Estate, Largs
The Noddsdale Estate dam is known as the Chinese Lake. The original dam was christened The Chinese Lake but why or who did the christening are lost in the mists of time. All that is known is that a hundred years ago the lake was surrounded by oriental shrubs and a wooden fence which gave it the appearance of a Chinese lake situated on the hillside above Noddsdale House.

The floats have barley straw mats suspended from them which when they rot away release an enzyme which stops weed growth.
