Romford 1st railway station (site), Greater London
Romford 1st railway station (site), Greater London
Opened in 1839 by the Eastern Counties Railway on the line from London Bishopsgate to Shenfield, this station closed to passengers in 1844 when a new Romford station was built 500m east, behind the camera position, at the site of the current station.
View west towards Chadwell Heath and London. At the time of the first station, the line was only double track with some sidings. Access was from a road on the north side of the line, now also gone.
